Baccarat (also known as Baccara) is a popular card game that draws a large number of players to casinos in Asia. In the article below, we'll learn about the interesting aspects of this game together:
Baccarat has been popular among the French elite since the nineteenth century - before the regulation of casino gambling in 1907, people in France used to play Baccarat in private gaming rooms during the Napoleonic era.
Despite its popularity in France, few people know the true origin of Baccarat is from Italy. Tracing back through the mists of history, Felix Falguerein is credited with inventing Baccara in the 15th century. The game is derived from tarot cards and the name roughly translates to "0" because all face cards and 10-pip cards are zero in the game. The French nobles loved the card game, as well as the letter "t" that followed it – "Baccarat" – and it was mostly played in France for hundreds of years.
Baccarat debuted in Las Vegas in 1959, although the minimum stake is only $20, and players are allowed to shuffle up to eight decks at once.
Unlike Blackjack, in Baccarat players are not given such a great choice of variations and bets to choose from. Actually, the three main bets in Baccarat are Player, Banker, and a Tie. The game also allows side bets to be made but their availability varies from casino to casino.
Rank of Cards:
The player's score in each game is the odd number of the total of the three cards.
For example, if the sum of three cards is 27 points, then you get 7 points (called buttons); 10 points get 0 points (called compensation).
Therefore, the highest possible hand value in Baccarat is therefore nine.
The suits of the cards are irrelevant.
Odds Summary
Bet | Odd |
Player | 1 : 1 |
Banker | 1 : 0.95 |
Tie | 1 : 8 |
Pair | 1:11 |
Perfect Pair | 1:25 |
Payouts
One thing to note is that all bets placed on the Banker and Player hand will be pushed if the result is a tie, meaning that neither hands loses or wins. You can decide to leave the bet as it is, remove it, switch it, or reduce/add the chips.
Dealing
Dealer will deal the first 4 cards:
• Player: 2 cards (1st and 3rd card).
• Banker: 2 cards (2nd and 4th card).
If either the Player hand or the Banker is dealt a total of 8 or 9 in the first two cards (known as a “Natural”), then the game is over, and the winning hand is determined on just those cards.
Drawing Rules:
Depending on the score, each side will either keep the cards or draw a third card.
If the player hand has a total of 6 or 7, then no third card is dealt.
If the player hand has a total of from 0 to 5, then a third card is dealt to that hand:
Total of the first two cards | Action |
0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 | Draw another card |
6 or 7 | Stand |
8 or 9 | Natural |
The banker's hand is always played last. Play of the banker's hand is dependent on how the player's hand was played. If the player hand does not draw a third card the banker handfollows the procedures following
First two cards total | Draws only when the Player's third card is: | Stands onlywhen the Player's third card is: |
0, 1 or 2 | Draw another card | |
3 | 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 9 | 8 |
4 | 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 | 0, 1, 8 or 9 |
5 | 4, 5, 6 or 7 | 0, 1, 2, 3, 8 or 9 |
6 | 6 or 7 | 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 or 9 |
7 | Stand | |
8 or 9 | Natural |
